Doen Dose

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. This weekend I cooked (made my Italian Chicken Dish), had dinner at Lucky’s Malibu, lunch at Cafe Gratitude, and checked out the new Aviator Nation Ride on Main Street in Santa Monica. It’s a retail store, juice bar, and cycling studio all in one. If you’re in the area it’s worth checking out (classes haven’t started yet).

Sharing my current favorite pieces from Doen below.

Aloha

I am just returning from an amazing week on the Big Island of Hawaii. This was our first time going to the Big Island as a family. We stayed at the newly renovated Auberge Mauna Lani Hotel. They did a beautiful job with the renovation. The hotel has an open airy feel surrounded by lush greenery, modern decor, and beautiful Hawaiian wall art. They have three pools, a beautiful beach, and stunning grounds to walk around. The hotel only has 330 rooms so it doesn’t feel as big of some of the other resorts on the Island. The food and drinks were excellent, and having a tennis center was a major bonus for me. We had dinner at the CanoeHouse the food was amazing along with the stunning setting! Other restaurants we loved on the island were Pueo’s Osteria (mushroom truffle pizza!!), Moa Kitchen, Izakaya Shiono (casual sushi in Kona), and Seiji Sushi (nothing fancy but it was delicious sushi prepared by a husband and wife team who we loved). For a sweet treat we enjoyed ice cream at Anuenue (the Volcano and Lily Koi Cheesecake were out of this world), and Acai bowls at Yoga Barre. It was so nice to see the hotel bustling and tourism coming back to the Island. The staff at the Mauna Lani couldn’t have been nicer and more accommodating we can’t wait to go back!

Now onto fashion.

Monday night was sushi night. I picked up nori, short grain rice, cucumber, avocado, crab, and lobster meat. I used the NYT Sushi Rice Recipe, and watched a quick youtube tutorial on how to roll sushi. It’s a really simple and fun dinner activity for everyone. I didn’t have a bamboo roller and it was fine rolling without it. Enoy!

Celebrity Approved

According to Vogue there are nine celebrity approved brands that made it big this year. I’ve narrowed down the list with my favorite from 2018.

  1. Doen – who wasn’t jumping for joy when Doen decided to have a long term pop-up at the Brentwood Country Mart this year, and if things couldn’t get any better they had a giant sample sale where we could all stock up on well priced goodies. Katherina and Margaret Kleveland are designing practical bohemian prairie inspired styles that can be worn day and night. Lily Aldridge is a fixture on Doen’s instagram modeling their beautiful dresses. I love this this, this, and this from the current line. Bird at the Platform in Culver City has a large selection of Doen until January 5th.
  2. By Far – Bulgarian footwear brand By Far was founded in 2016 and has high-profile fans. Their contemporary, elegant shapes are all handmade in a family run factory from a mix of premium and sustainable Italian leathers and suede. They have been spotted on the feet of Aimee Song, the Hadids, and Jenners. I like thisthis, and this from their line.
  3. Veja – Is a French brand with focus on fair trade and environmentally responsible suppliers.  These sneakers are being spotted around the globe. It didn’t hurt that Megan Markle choose to wear them on her recent trip to Australia. I’m a fan of these.
  4. Medea – Medea is the brain child of artists, models, and twin sisters Giulia and Camilla Venturini. This new Milan based brand is set to have the next IT bag! Click here to check it out.
